Dove season got off to a great start yesterday thanks to the superb field squatting efforts of Charles, Joseph and Torrent. Elaine won the super "trooper" award, and Avery got off to a stellar retrieving career. It did become quite clear why i have such a hard time killing a limit of ducks...i just don't shoot very well. (by the way- joseph and torrent arent the most sophisticated wing shots either)
All told, we killed 41 birds between the 5 of us on a TWRA public hunt. Not too bad for a government sponsored enterprise.
Also- This saturday, i will be taking a group of guys over to Harrisburg for the annual 3 Rivers Duck Club dove hunt. Anyone that wants to go is welcome. We will be leaving Memphis sometime between 12:00pm and 1:30pm. Plan to convene in WestMemphis at the Williams Travel Center North of I-40 at the Club road exit. I will post the exact meeting time later this week. Email or call to let me know if you're going so i can make the appropriate RSVP.

ADDENDUM OPENING WEEKEND REPORT:
I may not have gotten the invite for the hunt with y'all this weekend (thanks guys!) but I can add my contribution to the death toll: My father-in-law and I partook of the Missouri Department of Conservation's public hunt as well. Interesting experience,a daily draw for the hunt where they only allowed 150 hunters in and at least 300 showed up. As you can imagine, this led to several pi$$ed off bootheel rednecks. We took 22 birds between the two of us (+ 4 lost in the soybean field behind me). I look forward to showering some more feathers with you guys next weekend.
I am available for shooting lessons and I only charge $500 an hour. JK, for some reason Spence neglected to throw my name into the 'poor shooting' pot. Thank goodness we have a couple of months to zero in before we see greenheads coming through the trees.
