I think this is the first duck kill of the season. There is only one guy in this picture that ya'll know; look for the glare coming from the white legs!
I went down to East Texas for a guys weekend that almost got canceled due to Hurricane Ike, but we were dedicated and ended up killing 20 blue and green wing teal.
It was my first time and I absolutely loved it! The guys who go all the time were disappointed because the Teal weren't decoying very well. I guess I have a lot to learn when it comes to duck hunting, because any day I kill my limit is a good day!

2008 Death Toll hits 165 birds!

YTD number should be 165 birds.
I know that Torrent and Joseph went on a hunt over the weekend that has not been logged in, so this figure is lacking their hunt.

Another Dove Report

After a very early start to the day (it's amazing how much earlier 4:30 feels when you are getting up to not go hunting) for the Forrest Spence 5K. Spence and I horse-wrangled a couple of other guys into joining us for an afternoon hunt on Arkansas' opening day. After the GPS finally got us to the field we had a pretty good hunt. Despite some fairly sorry shooting on our (at least my) part we succeeded in bagging 50 doves (and a free Zaxby's meal apiece). All-in-all a pretty good day!

Spinning Wing Decoys

Everyone read this thread from a chat room re: robo duck. Don't know how you guys feel about the issue, but I personally don't like robo and think he is bad...especially on public ground. I would suggest, whether you are for robo or against him, that you read this thread and then enail your thought to all of the commissioners listed toward the bottom of the thread. It would be worth your time and their's to know how the hunters feel. Here's the link:

Dove Hunt Report

Dove season got off to a great start yesterday thanks to the superb field squatting efforts of Charles, Joseph and Torrent. Elaine won the super "trooper" award, and Avery got off to a stellar retrieving career. It did become quite clear why i have such a hard time killing a limit of ducks...i just don't shoot very well. (by the way- joseph and torrent arent the most sophisticated wing shots either)
All told, we killed 41 birds between the 5 of us on a TWRA public hunt. Not too bad for a government sponsored enterprise.

Also- This saturday, i will be taking a group of guys over to Harrisburg for the annual 3 Rivers Duck Club dove hunt. Anyone that wants to go is welcome. We will be leaving Memphis sometime between 12:00pm and 1:30pm. Plan to convene in WestMemphis at the Williams Travel Center North of I-40 at the Club road exit. I will post the exact meeting time later this week. Email or call to let me know if you're going so i can make the appropriate RSVP.
